Some facts you probably don't know about Robert Mugabe

1. Robert Mugabe comes from a highly dysfunctional family background
Robert Mugabe is reported to have had two older brothers when he was a young boy, both of whom died while they were still only children.
Around the time of the second child’s death aged 10, his father abandoned the family in 1934. Robert Mugabe’s mother had to start a new family thereafter, and so she went on to bear new children from another husband.

His stepfather was a strict and fanatically religious man and made sure that Robert Mugabe was brought up in line with the Catholic faith, sending him to a Jesuit school, where discipline was of paramount importance, instilling some ‘tough love’ values in Mugabe, which he says have guided him throughout his life.

2. Robert Mugabe’s own definition of ‘family values’ may be somewhat loose
While his wife Sally Hayfron was battling with terminal cancer, Robert Mugabe started having an extramarital affair with his private secretary, Grace Marufu. It wasn’t long until the world found out that Grace was disgracefully pregnant with a girl. Ignoring popular opinion, he married his erstwhile secretary in 1996, a few years after Sally, regarded as the mother of the nation, had died. Considering Mugabe’s long-standing objection to gay and lesbian relationships, which led to his enacting harsh sodomy laws in Zimbabwe 1987 accordingly, it would appear that there’s a only thin line between bigamy and bigotry in his thinking.
Mugabe’s previous marriage with Sally Hayfron had somewhat been rocky on account of the political circumstances of the times: Mugabe was imprisoned for ten years during the marriage due to his political activities in the 1960s and 1970s, causing a palpable strain on the relationship. During this period, their only child, Michael Nhamodzenyika, died from Malaria aged three, which caused the couple further distress and reportedly drove them apart, especially when Mugabe wasn’t granted permission to attend the funeral.

3. Doctor Honoris Causa and rebel without a cause
Education has always played the most important role in all of Robert Mugabe’s social policies, for which he has earned himself widespread recognition around the world while raising the literacy levels in Zimbabwe to an unparalleled 90 per cent – the highest in all of Africa. Originally trained as a school teacher himself, he has also managed to gain a choice few university degrees in his own time – mainly while completing correspondence courses during his time spent in Salisbury prison (now Harare). Mugabe holds a total of seven degrees, including a Bachelor of Laws and Master’s of Laws from the University of London. His other degrees cover the academic fields of economics, education and administration.
But on top of all his own merits, he was also awarded several honorary degrees as well as other official honours – many of which have since been revoked on account of the human rights violations in Zimbabwe under his rule. Both the University of Massachusetts and Michigan State University in the United States withdrew Mugabe’s honorary doctorates as well as the University of Edinburgh in the UK. Even the Queen stripped him of his knighthood in 2008 after 14 years, which doesn’t seem to faze Bob Mugabe a lot.

4. Robert Mugabe was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize
Yes, this is God’s honest truth. Robert Mugabe was shortlisted for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1981 after his election victory as Zimbabwe’s first democratically elected president following the country’s independence. His initial rhetoric based on reconciliation garnered him much positive regard and undivided attention at first. But the tide turned against him in the course of the 1980s, when political infighting and the Matabeleland Massacres, which saw more than 20,000 civilians massacred and scores tortured in internment camps, began to paint the political leader in a much different light. His attitude toward white Zimbabweans must also have undergone a major shift at the time, marked by his land redistribution policies and provocative quotes like “The white man is here as a second citizen. The only man you can trust is a dead white man.”
However, the Nobel Peace Prize has come under frequent scrutiny throughout history, with nominees including such historic figures as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini, Evita Peron and, more recently, Vladimir Putin. So Robert Mugabe’s joining the club should not perhaps come as such a surprise after all.

5. Robert Mugabe does not seem to care much about proper travel documentation
The year was 2013. The occasion: the inauguration of Pope Francis in Vatican Square. Despite the fact that Mr Mugabe was pretty much listed on every no-fly list in the Western world and is still not allowed to enter the EU on account of hefty sanctions imposed on the Zimbabwean leader, he still somehow managed to sneak in and out of Italy on his way to the Vatican in order to witness the pontification of Francis.
Citing religious reasons, he managed to subvert the ban and attend the ceremony like a true pilgrim of faith. He may have received his blessing and even his absolution while he was at St Peter’s Basilica, but whether he will truly be forgiven for all his sins is an altogether different question, which we can’t even begin to answer. But when in Rome…

6. Robert Mugabe’s ‘man parts’ are subject to much rumour and gossip
The fact that Robert Mugabe has produced what we can safely assume are his own offspring should attest to the fact that he does indeed have fully-formed and functional genitalia. Regardless, however, there are some online forums that try to discredit the ageing Zimbabwean leader’s manliness, and seek out proof to establish that certain elements of his manhood may be missing as a consequence of torture undergone during his incarceration. In fact, some of these reports seem to dive into uncomfortable extremes of anatomical detail, which may require an advanced level of medical understanding to follow to argument.
Other rumours circulating about his sexual health are focused on certain kinds of communicable diseases, to such an extend that some conspiracy theorists out there allege that Mugabe has died long ago from a disease that many people now consider a 19th-century relic, and that he has been replaced with body doubles to appease the ‘sheeple’ of Zimbabwe.

7. Robert Mugabe is a lottery winner
In 2000, when Zimbabwe was barely managing to come out of its worst famine and one out of two Zimbabweans was suffering from continuous unemployment, Robert Mugabe’s name was the one that was miraculously drawn by the national lottery in Zimbabwe, winning 100,000 Zimbabwean dollars (the equivalent of about $2,500 today). The entire country was surprised at the time but with the lottery being drawn by the country’s Reserve Bank, and with many of its directors having direct ties to or careers in government that surprise turned out to be short-lived.
However, Mugabe’s lucky win in the 2000 lottery was nothing compared to the lavish spending on his 90th birthday celebrations earlier this year, which is assumed to have run a total bill of over $40 million, pulled together from party funds, municipal money and ‘donations’. When it comes to money, our neighbour Bob is certainly not short of creative ideas.

8. Robert Mugabe on the silver screen
Don’t get your hopes up – the biopic of the Zimbabwean President has not been produced yet. It could easily run into a trilogy or a mini-series with all the events and revelations of his life taken into account.
However, the 2005 Hollywood thriller “The Interpreter” is said to be loosely based on an actual assassination plot that had once been planned against Mugabe. The fictional president character featured in the film is supposed to represent Robert Mugabe so succinctly well that the movie had to be banned in Zimbabwe altogether. The producers of the movie have never confirmed or denied the coincidences and similarities between Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwe and the persons and events depicted in the film, but audiences can watch it and make up their own minds – as long as they reside outside of Zim.

Namibia’s capital Windhoek features an homage to the Zimbabwean president with its very own Robert Mugabe Avenue, which seems to run for miles and miles from one end of the city to the other. Quite a central feature in downtown Windhoek, the “Mugavenue” runs past several Namibian landmarks such as the country’s Supreme Court, the Parliament Gardens and numerous foreign embassies, forming one of the main arteries through town.
In an ironic twist of town planning, however, Robert Mugabe Avenue actually happens to intersect with another iconically-named city infrastructure in Windhoek, Fidel Castro Street, saying perhaps a little bit more about the commonalities between the two revolutionary leaders than either one of them might find comfortable.

10. Robert Mugabe plans to run as president… again
By the look of his face alone he may well be older than Methuselah himself, but Robert Mugabe has confirmed that he intends to run for office again in 2018. If he does survive that for long he will have been president for over 30 years, preceded by his seven-year stint as prime minister.
Despite the fact that election fraud is believed to have been behind his most recent 2013 victory (with 61 per cent of votes going to his ZANU-PF party), Mugabe seems to be hopeful about the future, saying at his recent 90th birthday celebrations that he still felt as “energetic as a nine year old boy.”
We don’t know yet what his plans may be for elections in 2023 and beyond, but with medical advances in stem-cell research, daily Revlon rinses and enough formaldehyde to pickle the entire African continent, he might just manage to outlive us all.

Gunmen killed 14 peoples in two communities in Southern Kaduna

17:57 4nity Currency 0 Comments

Within 24 hours, gunmen invaded different communities in two local governments of Southern Kaduna, killing at least 14 people and destroying several properties.

The first attack occurred on Sunday in Bakin Kogi, Kaninkon Village in Jema’a Local Government Area at about 5:30 p.m.
The casualty in Jema’a is uncertain as the attackers are believed to have been repelled by security officials.

About 12 hours after the Jema’a attack, gunmen on Monday killed 14 persons and injured many others, in an attack on Ashim village, Takad chiefdom of Kaura Local Government Area.

Alexander Iya, chairman of the local government’s interim management committee, who briefed journalists on the incident, said that the gunmen stormed the village “around 6 a.m.” and launched a massive attack.
He said that most of the victims were women and children, whose corpses had been deposited at the Kafanchan General Hospital.

“Those injured are being treated at the Kaura General Hospital,” he said.
He said that the attackers also burnt many houses and destroyed crops.

Mr. Iya, however, disclosed that one of the invaders was killed by security personnel deployed to contain the situation.

The chairman appealed to the people to remain calm and avoid the temptation to take the law into their hands.
He assured them that government had deployed enough personnel to secure the communities.

Efforts to reach the Divisional Police Officer of the area were not successful, but a military official deployed to contain the situation, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the attack was “very serious”.
The Kaura and Jema’a attacks are part of the larger violence in Southern Kaduna between herdsmen and local communities that has caused the death of over 200 people.

Hours after the Kaura attack, the Kaduna State government announced that the Garrison Commander of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the state’s Commissioner of Police have relocated to Southern Kaduna.

This according to the government is to enable the army commander, Ismaila Isa, a brigadier general, and police commissioner Agyole Abeh coordinate a determined response to renewed attacks by armed bandits on communities in the two local governments.
A government statement said Governor Nasir El-Rufai has extended his condolence to the families of the victims of the renewed attacks.

The governor assured that the government is fully committed to securing the area, with the active support of the army and the police.

The statement added that two battalions of the army and10 mobile police squadrons are engaging the bandits, as the state carries out its obligations to secure the area, protect lives and rout the armed bandits.
The governor said that despite the difficulties and pains of the attacks, the bandits should not be given the pleasure of seeing victims turn on each other.

He called for support for the army and the security agencies as they work to repel attacks and defeat the bandits.

“I have been in touch with the security agencies and I have been studiously following the situation in Jema’a and Kaura Local Government Areas over the unfortunate attacks,” the governor said.

“I want to, first of all, extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and relations that lost their loved ones and properties in these unfortunate attacks. My prayers and support equally goes to citizens that sustained injuries and are traumatised by what they witnessed.

“This is clearly a wicked, evil and devilish act being perpetrated by enemies of peace and humanity.

“I also wish to commend our gallant soldiers and police personnel, who are defending our communities. The Kaduna State Government will continue to work assiduously with security agencies towards the protection of life and property,” Mr. El-Rufai said.

Old Mugabe declares to contest 2018 election says there's no replacement for him

At 94 Mugabe declares to contest 2018 election
Zimbabwe’s long-serving President, Robert Mugabe has declared his intention to run for the 2018 elections in his address to his ruling ZANU-PF party while also noting that the people of Zimbabwe see no viable successor to him for next year’s general polls.

Mugabe, the world’s oldest national leader has been confirmed by his party as its candidate for the next presidential election expected in mid-2018, when he will be 94.
Speaking while addressing party faithfuls, Mugabe said; “They want me to stand for elections, they want me to stand for elections everywhere in the party,” Mugabe said in comments to state media.
“The majority of the people feel that there is no replacement, successor who to them is acceptable, as acceptable as I am.”
His declaration is coming days after his wife, Grace suggested when speaking to the supporters of the ruling party that citizens of her country will still vote for her husband’s corpse, even when he is dead.

The wife of the 92-year-old leader who is seen as a possible successor to her ailing husband, made the comments without mincing words saying the move will show how people of Zimbabwe love their president.
‘One day when God decides that Mugabe dies, we will have his corpse appear as a candidate on the ballot paper. You will see people voting for Mugabe as a corpse. I am seriously telling you — just to show people how people love their president, she added.

Grace also accused some ruling Zanu-PF party officials of plotting to take over from her husband and said that if he dies supporters should put his name on the ballot to show their love for him.

In a couple of days, February 21st to be precise, Mugabe, who has been in power since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980 will turn 93 with a grand celebration party planned in the next six days.

Despite heavy security personnel said to have been deployed to southern Kaduna, suspected Fulani herdsmen are said to have again, brutally murdered about 21 people in the area and burnt down several houses.

The attacks leading to the latest death and destruction reportedly took place between Sunday and Monday in four communities.

The communities affected are Ashim, Nissi and Zilan in Atakad District, Kaura Local Government and Bakin Kogi, Goska District of Jama’a Local Government Area.

A report had put the number of Christians killed in recent time in the affected area at over 800. Though another report claimed the figure may have been exaggerated, it however claimed that at least, more 300 have been gruesomely murdered.

Confirming the latest attack, President of Atakad Community Development Association, Mr. Enock Andong, put the number of casualties at about 15 people while 55 houses were burnt.
It was learnt that the casualty figure would have been higher but for the arrival of security operatives in the affected areas.

Buhari snubs Jonathan's $3.5bn national e-ID card

14:02 4nity Currency 0 Comments

The apparent loss of interest by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration may have put a final nail on the coffin of the $3.5 billion so far spent on the electronic national identity card (National e-ID) project.
Sources inform that the Presidency has been unable to resolve a series of crises that have been stalling the continuation of the project initially billed to have attained 70% achievement by 2016.

It could be recalled that former president Goodluck Jonathan, with funfair, publicly launched the all-purpose plastic card in September 2014 and assured all that the cards were targeted at reaching the 170 million Nigerian population, in a staggered exercise, which would see 2017 as deadline for all to have it.
The card is targeted at solving many identity-related issues, including being used as ATM card, voters’ card and ECOWAS travelling id card, among others.

A monitoring committee, made up of the then Finance Minister, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former managing director Zenith Bank, Mr. Jim Ovia and Chairman HEIR holding, Mr. Tony Elumelu, was constituted to give the projection the needed pep.

Two firms, MasterCard and Chams constituted a consortium of companies to work with the National Identity Management Company (NIMC) to achieve results.
But a faceoff between the NIMC and one of the companies, Cham barely a year after the public presentation of the programme, was said to have ended in court.

However, the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians led to a negotiation, capable of resolving the claim by Cham that about N25 billion damages be paid it by NIMC for alleged breach of contract.
Said Mr. Charles Samuel, an official of Ria Pay Solution, one of the firms in the programme: “The identity programme can be said to be going on, but in such a slow pace that it could be said to have been dead. It can only take a renewed interest from the government to achieve the projected result.
“If the initial zeal by government were sustained, by end of 2016, at least 60 per cent success would have been recorded before end of 2017 meant to be the ultimate end result.”

It was learnt that the directive by President Buhari that all various establishments that are issuing identity cards be collapsed into one portal may have further introduced another bottle neck that would not allow the multi-billion dollar identity card project to see the light of day soon.
At some public offices, where NIMC has its posters announcing that the services exist, members of the public were subjected to payment of some amount of money to be captured in their data bank, without being issued the card.

Mrs. Bisi Adeyinka, a Lagos-based petty trader put it this way: “After paying N500 for my details to be captured, I was asked to go to the Air Force Base in Ikeja. It was my third day of such visit that I was attended to, and I have been asked to go to the zonal headquarters of NIMC for my card, and this I have done without any card given me.”

So far, the e-ID card is all but abandoned, and the huge resources committed to the project, like many other government initiatives may just be set to go down the drain.

I Won ’t Return To Nigeria Until My Doctors Are Satisfied

13:39 4nity Currency 0 Comments

I Won ’t Return To Nigeria Until My Doctors Are Satisfied – President Muhammadu Buhari has said he would only return to Nigeria when his London doctors certify him well enough to do so.

In the February 5 letter to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, informing the National Assembly of the extension of his vacation, President Buhari wrote:

The letter was exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday.

Although snippets of the letter were publicised by the presidency and the Senate on February 5 and 6 respectively, this is the first time the entire text and copy of the correspondence would be made available. See it after the cut.

The President wrote:

This is the third time Mr. Buhari has transferred power to Mr. Osinbajo since the two leaders were inaugurated in May 2015.

The first time was on February 5, 2016 when the President embarked on a five-day vacation; and the second was in June 2016 when Mr. Buhari travelled to the United Kingdom for treatment of what the Presidency described as ear infection.

Recession biting hard on Nigerians, says Saraki

19:05 4nity Currency 0 Comments

Pledges legislation to easy suffering

The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki has bemoaned the negative impact of the current economic recession saying that it has impinged on the standard of living of the ordinary citizens, and a major source of concern for the National Assembly.

He however assured that the National Assembly is working assiduously to ensure that critical and fundamental legislations that would get Nigeria out of recession would be passed without delay.

Speaking while receiving a delegation of the European Union (EU) on Democracy Support and Election Coordination to the National Assembly in Abuja, Saraki said, “The National Assembly was committed to resolving the country’s economic challenges through relevant legislation as a deliberate measure towards enhancing the welfare of the people.

He disclosed that the current standard of living of the ordinary citizen remains a source of concern to the lawmakers.
According to him, “The legislature would not be seen to have succeeded in its primary responsibilities without the masses feeling legislative impact on their living standards.”
He commended the EU Parliament for the critical role it played in monitoring the 2015 general elections in Nigeria, which according to him, “Has set a new standard for other African countries to emulate.”

In his remark, the leader of the delegation, Santiago Fisas noted that the legislators would not be seen to have succeeded in their primary assignments without legislative actions impacting positively on the masses through improved standards of living.

The EU delegation had earlier paid similar visits to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, chairmen of critical committees of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, the Clerk to the National Assembly and the Director General, National Institute for Legislative Studiers, where the issues of areas of collaboration and support by the group were extensively discussed.

The delegation, under the aegis of Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group (DEG) of the EU were in the country to support Nigeria’s parliamentary democracy, and also ascertain areas of collaboration with the National Assembly.

Its aim was to lend support to democracies in the areas of strengthening parliamentary capacity, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) process and increase public confidence in democratic governance.

The Notorious B.I.G and His Amazing Quotes

18:53 4nity Currency 0 Comments

Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997), better known by his stage names The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie, or Biggie Smalls,[1] was an American rapper. He is consistently ranked as one of the greatest and most influential rappers of all time[2]
Wallace was raised in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.
When he released his debut album Ready to Die in 1994, he became a central figure in the East Coast hip hop scene and increased New York's visibility in the genre at a time when West Coast hip hop was dominant in the mainstream.[3] The following year, Wallace led his childhood friends to chart success through his protĂ©gĂ© group, Junior M.A.F.I.A.
While recording his second album, Wallace was heavily involved in the growing East Coast–West Coast hip hop feud.
On March 9, 1997, Wallace was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.
His double-disc album Life After Death, released 16 days later, rose to No. 1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000, one of the few hip hop albums to receive this certification.[4] Wallace was noted for his "loose, easy flow",[5] dark semi-autobiographical lyrics and storytelling abilities, sometimes changing his pitch on songs. Two more albums have been released since his death. He has certified sales of 17 million units in the United States.

Enyimba beat Akwa United 2-0, move to fourth position

By Christian Okpara   |   10 February 2017   |   1:16 am

Enyimba Football Club.
MFM lose first game in five matches
Former champions, Enyimba of Aba, yesterday defeated Akwa United by a lone goal to move up to the fourth position on the NPFL log on a day MFM suffered their first loss in five games of the league.

Enyimba, who now play in Calabar following the on-going repairs at the Aba Stadium, waited until the 82nd for the win made possible by Skipper Mfon Udoh’s long-range shot.

The loss did not change Akwa United’s situation, as they remain on the 19th spot on the log.

In Ilorin, Samuel Oyedeji converted a penalty kick 17 minutes from time to hand ABS victory over MFM FC, which matched the Ilorin side in all the departments until Stanley Okorom was adjudged to have upended Ebuka Anakwe in the box.

Yesterday’s loss also did not change MFM’s position, as they remain second on the table, but ABS moved from fourth to third position.

Plateau United are still on top of the table following their 2-0 defeat of El Kanemi Warriors on Wednesday.

The Jos club have 17 points from seven matches, four points clear of MFM FC.

El-Rufai: There’s a 37-year History behind Kaduna Crisis

16:25 4nity Currency 0 Comments

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday said the Southern Kaduna crisis is more serious than what many see because there is a 37-year-old history behind it with 11 incidences so far since the first crisis broke out in 1980.

The governor, who spoke at a session with select journalists in Lagos, identified as the reason the crisis has not abated for 37 years the fact that governments at different times did not make a scapegoat of their various inquiries, save for an effort by the General Ibrahim Babangida-led federal government in 1987.

El-Rufai, who also spoke briefly on the issue of cabal in the President Muhammadu Buhari government, declared that there is no government or institution without a cabal of two to three trusted people with whom decisions are made.

He, however, denied being part of the cabal as being insinuated in certain quaters, classifying the header of the state into three headers; Infrastructure development, security and youth employment of out-of -school students, the governor further broke down the security into three areas namely cattle rustling and rural banditry; growing urban gangs by frustrated young and unemployed people and the third being incessant attacks on communities in Southern Kadun.

According to him, while government has contained the first two of the security challenge considerably because it could understand their bases, the crisis in Southern Kaduna; has proved recalcitrant because it is not only 37 years old, but also because there are constantly religious, ethnic and political slants to it. The elements of religion, ethnicity and politics, he further said, have made it very difficult to tackle for obvious mischief of those stoking the crisis.
But in taming the Southern Kaduna crisis, the governor said his government had come up with a three-pronged approach of first stabilising the place, enforcing an enduring prosecution process and building a lasting peace.
While there is a subsisting 24-hour curfew imposed on the town with steady helicopter surveillance system to stabilise the place, government is gradually taking many of the identified culprits to court, where they are meant to face stiff prosecution and a conscious effort to reunite the people through constructive engagement for lasting peace.

Already, he said the federal government, as part of the peace initiative, had approved two military garrisons – one in Southern Kaduna and the other in Kachia – adding that a foundation of one had already been laid recently, in addition to heavy combined security deployment.
He said the current crisis started post-2011 general election, won by former President Goodluck Jonathan, and that a former governor of the state, the late Patrick Yakowa had figured this and addressed it through negotiation and compensation but his untimely passing resuscitated the internal strife.
“It usually starts with a dispute between two people with different ethnic and religious backgrounds. They don’t get resolved. It is mostly ethnic and not religious…We are ready for this. We will prosecute at least once in our four years. We did a lot to contain this.
“There is no peace without justice and no justice without a foundation of law and order. Our problem is that we appease criminals and negotiate with them. But that has to stop. There must be sanctions and rewards; stick and carrot. But we use the carrot the most,” adding that the crisis is also neck deep in a lot of politics ahead of the 2019 elections.

The complication of the Southern Kaduna crisis, he argued, is further defined by the fact that the Fulanis exist in about 14 African countries and have the unrestricted rights of cross-border migration as sanctioned by the ECOWAS.

On the issue of cabal, he didn’t pretend about it because he thought it is a norm in governments and corporations, saying it is a natural instinct that people in the position of authorities share their thought process with a few they could trust and that it is such idea mischief makers tag as the cabal system.
“There’s always a cabal. In every government or institution, there are always two or three people you can trust with whom you take decisions. So, there’s always a cabal. But the issue is whether the cabal is a positive or negative one. However, whether I am a member of the cabal, the answer is no. My primary assignment is Kaduna,” he said.

He alluded to other efforts of the government in the area of infrastructure development.
For instance, el-Rufai said his administration is striving hard to catch up with other Northern states that have left it behind many years ago, even though Kaduna gave birth to them and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

With a major focus on education, which accounts for about 35 per cent of the 2016 and 2017 budgets and which has seen to a significant boost in school enrolments, the governor said he has been laying solid foundation for governance in the state.

Apart from the situation in Southern Kaduna, which El-Rufai claimed is being contained considerably from all angles, other forms of insecurity like kidnapping, robbery and gang wars have equally been decimated with a determined and effective security team he instituted.

Sergio Aguero: Manchester City have no intention of selling striker in summer

18:19 4nity Currency 0 Comments

Manchester City have no intention of selling Sergio Aguero this summer, despite the striker being left out of the team for the past two matches.

The 28-year-old signed a contract extension earlier this season, meaning he has three years left on his deal.
After coming off the bench in City's 2-1 win over Swansea, Aguero said: "I want to stay, of course.
"In these [next] three months I have to help the club and then they will decide if I have a place here or not."
Despite Aguero expecting a decision to be made in the summer, senior City figures indicated on Sunday that they do not expect to sell the player.
The Argentina forward came on for the final seven minutes as City secured a dramatic win over Swansea thanks to Gabriel Jesus' injury-time winner, the second of the game for the Brazilian, who has taken Aguero's place in the starting XI.
Aguero is City's top scorer this season with 18, 11 more than Raheem Sterling, who is next on the list.
He is third on City's all-time scoring chart with 154 and was the Premier League's Golden Boot winner in 2014-15. He was also City's leading scorer in their 2011-12 title-winning campaign, when he netted the famous injury-time winner in the final game of the season against Queens Park Rangers.
However, he was left out of a key Champions League qualifier against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on 19 October, which led to reports he is not in manager Pep Guardiola's plans.
"In three years my contract is up. That's why I say I'm happy at the club," said Aguero.
"When you're on the bench you have to wait for your opportunity. I have three months to do my best and try to help the team. Then we'll see what happens with my future."
Guardiola said Aguero remains "one of the most important players in our squad" and will "play a lot of games" between now and the end of the season.
But Jesus, 19, has impressed his manager, scoring three goals in three starts since joining from Palmeiras, and the Catalan suggested he would not be left out of the team as long as he continues his scoring form.
Guardiola said Aguero's reaction to being omitted was "perfect", adding: "It must not be easy. I understand that."
City's next three matches are in different competitions, at Bournemouth in the Premier League on 13 February, Huddersfield in the FA Cup on 18 February before they entertain Monaco in the Champions League last-16 first leg on 21 February.

N26m Scam!! Fani-Kayode begs to settle N26m alleged fraud out of court

17:49 4nity Currency 0 Comments

Fani-Kayode begs to settle N26m alleged fraud out of courtormer Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Monday prayed the Federal High Court in Abuja to permit him to settle his alleged N26million fraud case out of court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) is prosecuting the one time Director of Media and Publicity in the campaign team of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 election, for illegally receiving N26million from the office of former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki, retd, prior the election to organise media campaigns for the former president.

But Fani-Kayode, told the court presided over by John Tsoho on Monday through his counsel, Mr Ahmed Raji, SAN, that he should adjourn the case to allow him opportunity to effect out of court settlement with the EFCC.

He said he was ready to make restitution of his alleged offence in order to save the Federal Government and himself the troubles of trial.

The defendant’s counsel also said he was new on the matter and requires more period of time to fully review the case-file so as to be able to properly defend his client.

He said, “My lord, looking at the facts of the case and the money involved, I believe that there are other options we can explore. The case involves the sum of N26 million and the law allows you to explore the option of a plea bargain and so many other options rather than to go through trial.”

Raji further informed the trial judge that the anti-graft agency is amenable to the plea bargain.
Counsel to the EFCC, Mr Johnson Ojogbane, did not object to the prayer, but however observed that the matter has been adjourned twice at the instance of the defendant.
